ð Community-Led. Beneficiary-Designed. Focused on Homestead Readiness.
KÅkua for Kuleana Lots is a community-led and beneficiary-designed initiative supporting DHHL beneficiaries in Anahola as they prepare for sustainable and resilient homestead living.
Led by Ê»Äina Alliance in partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands (DHHL), this 3-year effort begins by gathering beneficiaries into a Kuleana Work Group to identify priorities, shape workshop topics, and guide the learning journey.
Through collaborative planning and hands-on training, participants have the opportunity to build practical skills in land stewardship, food production, off-grid infrastructure, disaster resilience and long-term homestead readiness â grounded in kuleana and aloha Ê»Äina. This project centers beneficiary voices to ensure the knowledge shared reflects the real needs and goals of the community.
How the Project Works
The project organized in two connected phases:
Phase 1: Community Design
A Kuleana Beneficiary Work Group helps shape the direction of the program by:
-
Identifying priority skills and needs
-
Guiding workshop focus areas
-
Informing curriculum development
-
Ensuring cultural grounding remains central
Workshops are not pre-set â they are co-created with beneficiaries.
Phase 2: Hands-On Implementation
Based on community guidance, hands-on workshops and applied training sessions are developed and delivered over three years.
What the Workshops May Include
Topics will reflect beneficiary priorities and may include:
-
Food production and subsistence agriculture
-
Land stewardship and pastoral practices
-
